Innate & Lighthouse Jacksons For January 4th

Posted by KilkennyMusic.com on Dec 22nd, 2006

Mullingar outfit Innate and Kilkenny’s own ‘The Lighthouse Jacksons’ complete the lineup for Thursday January 4th, and we’re looking forward to seeing both groups in action. While little is known about the Lighthouse Jacksons, two of their members will be performing an acoustic set (one guitar, one djembe/percussion) while Innate will be coming armed with acoustic guitar and bass, some percussion, as well as a fiddle and quite possibly a cello, our first cellist at the Sessions (and possibly not the only one on the night).

Here’s a little on Innate…

Its truly an event when a band disregards convention and simply produces raw honest music…prepare for that beautiful moment when a well kept secret starts to bloom - Siobhán Long, Hot Press. Damn good - Dave Fanning, 2FM. Never overshadowed by their influences, they are forging out a distinctive pathvery promising - Ken Fallon, B Scene

Check the Innate MySpace for more.

Majella Murphy - Mary Jones

Posted by KilkennyMusic.com on Dec 18th, 2006

We’ve launched our YouTube account and we’re slowly going to be adding videos from the Sessions as they happen. The quality of the videos isn’t fantastic as of yet (I’m shooting on my Sony Ericsson K800i), we’re currently in the process of organising some funding for light video equipment. Until then though, it will be K800 all the way!

Here’s Majella Murphy playing ‘Mary Jones’ at the One Take Sessions, Thursday December 14th. Majella will be on the podcast, hopefully published before the end of the week.

We’ve got another name for you for January 25th and it is James O’Toole. Playing tunes reminiscent of Jeff Buckely, James will be joining Linda Coogan and Ken McGuire on the night as well. Here’s a little more…

Linda Coogan Plays January 25th

Posted by KilkennyMusic.com on Dec 11th, 2006

Linda Coogan joins us on January 25th for the One Take Sessions. At 23 years old and a qualifed luthier (go on ya good thing!) she is sure to be a real pleasure to enjoy in January.

Via her MySpace profile…

A qualified luthier in the construction of Harps, guitars and other stringed instruments, Linda Coogan is both an extraordinary singer-songwriter and a consummate musician. Gifted with a voice of rare depth and sensuality this multi-instrumentalist (guitar, harmonica, mandolin, bouzouki, and bodhran) is now releasing her long-awaited debut album, “Holding back.” As well as gathering support from the international press Linda was one of the Top 11 Irish Artists in GCN’s (Ireland’s leading gay magazine) 200th Special Edition. She also appeared in Ireland’s best selling music magazine HOTPRESS as Pick of the Fortnight, chosen by none other than music journalist Jackie Hayden – the critic who famously got U2 signed. Proving that she exerts her own place amongst her peers, Linda was invited to play alongside Kila and The Pale and Mundy in Ireland’s first Relay for Life concert in October; her raw smoky vocals, though possessing an undeniable originality, being compared to the likes of Tori Amos and Tracy Chapman. The unique sounding debut album was recorded, in the true folk fashion, in less than a week. Recorded independently and entirely self-produced, it contains 13 beautifully crafted songs on which Linda plays her own handmade guitar and bouzouki. The artwork on the album’s cover is by international artist Bernie Leahy, who was recently featured on Ireland’s Late Late show. “I try to summon up emotion in the music whist maintaining melody and a touch of sensuality in the vocals. Folk music is sung from the heart, which is how a lot of my music is performed, but I wouldn’t squeeze it into any category. There is a touch of jazz and blues there too, along with rock,” says Linda. The music moves seamlessly from genre to genre as each songs unfolds. It cannot, nor does it need to be pidgeon-holed into one category. The album’s passion for diversity is as exciting as it is authentic, and its quality reveals an artistic maturity that belies her 23 years of age

Majella Murphy For Xmas Sessions

Posted by KilkennyMusic.com on Dec 1st, 2006

Majella Murphy will grace the One Take Sessions with her superb musical presence on December 14th. The Kilkenny native has enjoyed recent success with her debut album ‘Brave New World’.

From earlier this year…

For the first time ever a music artist has launched an entire album exclusively on a mobile phone. Up and coming singer songwriter, Majella Murphy, who hails from Kilkenny, has preloaded her new album “Brave New World” on the Sony Ericsson Z530i available exclusively from O2 Ireland. The album, which includes three live acoustic tracks will not go on general digital release until July 2006.

Speaking in Dublin today, Pat Hughes, Sony Ericsson, said, “As a world first, both Sony Ericsson and O2 are delighted to play a role in launching Majella Murphy’s album exclusively via mobile phone. This marks an exciting time for the collaboration of music and mobile phones. Partnering with mobile technology provides a vital opportunity for gifted artists such as Majella to connect with audiences in new and more immediate ways”.
