Oh What A Night

Posted by KilkennyMusic.com on Apr 20th, 2007

It has to be said… that was a top quality night last night, our greatest of thanks to Dave Johnston, Rob O’Connor, Ian Doyle and the lads in Tortured Artists Social Club for their performances. The podcast won’t give you even half the magic of the music from last night, our strongest lineup to date overall - but it will be released on Tuesday for you to listen and enjoy.

Cheers also to iD for making a home for the One Take Sessions, the Arts Office and Arts Council for allowing us to develop the One Take Sessions and to everyone who both turned up last night and continue to drop on regularly every third Thursday. It means an awful lot to both ourselves and the acts to have people there who actually listen to the music and show their appreciation.

TASC should be back up this next of the woods in two months or so while Rob O’Connor can be seen with Acrojunk in Cleere’s on June 22nd. Onward we go to May 10th!

Great Sessions For April 19th

Posted by KilkennyMusic.com on Apr 18th, 2007

The One Take Sessions are really in full swing as we’re back with the 9th outing tomorrow, Thursday April 19th. On the bill we’ve got the Tortured Artists Social Club, Rob O’Connor, Ian Doyle (Chaplin) and Dave Johnston. If you’re around we’d love you to come down and share in this most fantastic of music!

As always tomorrow night will get underway at 9:30pm. We’ve enjoyed some top quality acts to date and tomorrow night is no different, so if you’re in Kilkenny, looking for some fantastic music - for free - drop in to the One Take Sessions. Here’s some details on the acts….

Tortured Artists Social Club

Dirty, predatory rock may be your first impression of TASC, but if you dig a little deeper. The boys of TASC are every girls dream - bad boys with a soul. TASC write stories of hope, love, disillusion, belief and discrimination but are never afraid to have a sense of humour. A true live band, TASC set out to portray a message and entertain. “If we cant get everyone on their feet, at least well put a thought in their head!”

TASC describe themselves as dirty rock with a conscience. “We try to keep the songs simple” says bassist John, “Something you can relate to, or feel every day in the words and a melody that you can hum to yourself waiting for your bus. Its all about feel, instead of trying to fit into a certain sound or this seasons fashionable look. More…

Rob O’Connor

In their previous incarnation as “The Bearded Ladies”, Robert OConnor (vocals/guitar), Marc Merriman (percussion/keyboards) and Ben Clooney (bass) slowly built somewhat of a national profile in recent years playing numerous gigs throughout the country. They have shared stages with well-known acts such as The Walls, Mark Geary, Fred, Jerry Fish & The Mudbug Club, Turn and Tenspeedracer. Their stage performances were characterised by their frenetic energy and upbeat nature and earned favourable notices in the press. More…

Ian Doyle

Chaplin are a five piece band from Wexford Ireland who have been writing and recording music together for as long as time can remember. Chaplins sound is all encompassing crossing and mixing styles from country, rock, blues, folk and even ambient and dance. The Chaps have spent the last two years writing and recording their debut album which should be finished for a September release. On the gig front Chaplin have rarely ventured outside their native Wexford where they enjoy a modest local following. The Chaps are currently booking their first Irish Tour to support their September album release. Note - the full band is not appearing on stage. More…

Dave Johnston

We’re not posting the bio (can’t find it here in front of me) so enjoy a flick of Dave in action on BalconyTV.
