15th One Take Sessions Tonight
The 15th One Take Sessions hits Cleere’s in Kilkenny tonight featuring
Music starts at 9:30pm with a collection on the door going to the Rockfall Festival.
The One Take Sessions, now the only ‘music club’ running in Kilkenny, returns to Cleere’s Theatre this Thursday October 25 as part of the Rockfall Festival and resumes it’s regular tri-weekly spot in the local gig calendar.
Having changed venue from iD at the start of this summer, the One Take Sessions is run in Cleere’s Theatre, the adopted home of the KilkennyMusic.com crew, each night featuring 3-4 acoustic acts from around the country whether performing solo, as a duet or in a band environment.
A noteworthy fact is that the upcoming show, the fifteenth overall, comes almost a year to the date the One Take Sessions commenced, having launched on November 2 last year.
Performance slots are usually booked weeks in advance and in the three remaining sessions nights in the run up to Christmas, fans of the free music night will be treated to the delightful sounds of Jimi Cullen, Emer Dunne, West of Eden, Moses Moorhous, Clive Barnes, Ro Tierney and more.
Highlights from the sessions so far this year include performances from Chaplin’s Ian Doyle, the Tortured Artists Social Club, Adela Meally, Innate, Acrojunk’s Rob O’Connor and local acts including Jimmy Trigger (ITF), Original Lineup, Ken McGuire, David Thompson and more. Every night of the One Take Sessions is recorded for podcasting on KilkennyMusic.com, with previous nights available to listen to via SoundSystemPodcast.com, the local music group’s flagship podcast which aired it’s 28th show just last week.
The One Take Sessions are open to anyone, although the organisers prefer performers to operate in an acoustic environment.
“It can be fun for some of the heavier bands”, suggests Ken McGuire, “as we see them take a completely different life on the stage when dropping from the usual ear-bursting levels of heavy guitars down to the more intimate sounds of acoustic instruments. The potential is there for the bands to introduce their sounds to a completely different audience, and reap the benefits because of it.”
The One Take Sessions return this Thursday October 25 in Cleere’s Theatre at 9:30pm. As part of the Rockfall Festival, a collection will be made on the door for those wishing to make a donation to the O’Neill Centre. All proceeds raised across KKM’s activites this weekend (three shows in total) will be donated to the O’Neill Centre in Kilkenny as part of Rockfall.
