The One Take Sessions are what the press have been calling “one of the most anticipated staples on the local scene” in 2007. The One Take Sessions is an open music night showcasing some of the finest raw talent on the Irish music scene. On the go since November 2006, the ‘Sessions take place in Cleere’s Theatre on Parliament Street in Kilkenny. Having started in ID (just next door to Cleere’s) in November, we made the move to take up permanent home in Cleere’s on Thursday June 21st 2007. Makes sense for the ‘Sessions to be in the place that has been home to KilkennyMusic.com since 2005.
Taking place every third Thursday, each of the ‘Sessions showcases 3-4 acts with available slots being booked in advance (as opposed to turn up on the night). This of course gives us the opportunity to advertise your slot, do poster promotion, radio promotion, play your tracks on the Sound System Podcast, get your videos up on KilkennyMusic.com, everything that helps to promote YOU! That is part of what the night is about too. The majority of acts that come to the ‘Sessions are fresh to Kilkenny so it is a perfect way to make your mark on the Kilkenny music scene. Bringing your band to Kilkenny at some stage? Why not sneak in an advance acoustic performance at the ‘Sessions?
We don’t charge for the night (advocates of free music for the ‘Sessions) so we don’t pay for the night. What you will get though is a recording of your set as mixed by one of our engineers, a photo set of your gig (available through the KilkennyMusic.com gallery, one of your tracks (or sometimes two) from the night used on the Sound System Podcast (international listenership - according to figures from May 2007). We feel its nice to get something out of your appearance in Kilkenny!
And don’t be a stranger! If you’ve enjoyed your time at the One Take Sessions then feel free to put your name down again. We usually allow some time to pass between appearances at the One Take Sessions but talk to any of us if you would like to make another appearance, we’d love to have you back!
Bookings
Bookings can be made by filling out the online booking form or by emailing sessions@kilkennymusic.com. Bookings have a tendency to fill rather quickly, keep an eye on the homepage ‘Sessions listings for available slots.
